Liposuction: What is it?
Liposuction is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures requested by men and women of various ages. Performed as an outpatient procedure, liposuction surgery can help you perfect your body contours to achieve the physique you desire.
Liposuction with Joshua Greenwald, MD
Although liposuction is often portrayed by the media as a “quick fix” solution, it is an intricate surgical treatment that requires advanced skill on the part of the surgeon. Only a highly trained and experienced liposuction specialist, such as Dr. Greenwald, can deliver remarkable yet natural-looking appearance change through liposuction surgery. Joshua Greenwald, MD, uses his advanced training and his eye for aesthetics to create a harmonious slimming effect while avoiding uneven bumps and skin discolorations. As a result, Dr. Greenwald’s liposuction Westchester patients are able to achieve a remarkably enhanced appearance in the safest, most comfortable manner possible.
Liposuction: Preparation, Procedure & Recovery
In order to achieve the most flattering liposuction results, Dr. Greenwald conducts several pre-surgical consultations, during which he explains how his patients should prepare for their treatments. For instance, Dr. Greenwald might suggest that the prospective liposuction patients who smoke abstain from cigarettes for several weeks before and after liposuction. This is because the chemicals found in cigarettes interfere with proper blood flow and might complicate the healing process. Similarly, Dr. Greenwald might recommend that his patients stop using certain over-the-counter medications immediately before and/or after liposuction.
Dr. Greenwald typically performs liposuction as an outpatient procedure. Depending on the extent of liposuction, the patient receives either local or general anesthesia. Dr. Greenwald then creates several tiny incisions in the area to be operated on, inserts special surgical tubes (cannulas), and moves them back and forth while suctioning out the fat cells. Once the incisions are closed, Dr. Greenwald applies appropriate surgical dressings, and the procedure is completed.
The results of liposuction typically become visible within several months, although many of Dr. Greenwald’s Westchester County liposuction patients notice some preliminary results within a few weeks of their procedures. Most individuals feel very sore immediately after the liposuction surgery and require several days of rest before they can return to work. Any discomfort following liposuction surgery can be managed with pain medications prescribed by Dr. Greenwald.
After Liposuction
The results of liposuction are permanent. This means that the fat cells that were suctioned out during the procedure will not grow back. However, the surrounding fat cells might grow larger if the liposuction patient gains weight. If the weight gain is relatively small and the patient cannot lose the excess fat via diet and exercise, the liposuction procedure might be repeated.
In certain situations, full abdominoplasty might not be necessary and the patient can opt for the mini tummy tuck instead. In addition to the comprehensive mommy makeover treatment, Dr. Greenwald also offers body lift for individuals who have lost a massive amount of weight and desire to remove folds of excess skin from their lower body area.
