SmartLipo with Dr. Greenwald
SmartLipo is an advanced form of liposuction that uses laser energy to disrupt and remove unwanted fat cells. During laser liposuction, Dr. Greenwald administers a precisely predetermined amount of laser energy to the target areas. The laser energy helps dislodge the fat cells, which are then easier to suction out through surgical cannulas (liposuction tubes). The cannulas used during SmartLipo are considerably thinner than the cannulas used during traditional liposuction. As a result, SmartLipo patients experience considerably less swelling and bruising following their treatments.

SmartLipo can be performed on various areas of the body. Some of the more typically treated areas include the abdomen, flanks, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, chin and neck. A welcome “side effect” of the laser energy administered during SmartLipo is its skin-tightening effect. The laser energy stimulates skin cells, promoting skin contraction over the areas where the underlying fat cells have been removed. Due to this characteristic of SmartLipo, this procedure is appropriate for many mature patients who might not be traditional liposuction candidates due to the loss of skin elasticity associated with age.
Laser-Assisted Liposuction in Westchester
Dr. Greenwald typically performs SmartLipo under local anesthesia. This means that the patient is awake but does not feel any pain. The procedure is typically completed within one hour, after which the patient can return home. Due to the minimally invasive treatment approach, most patients recover rapidly and are able to resume their everyday activities within a few days following their SmartLipo treatments.
Dr. Greenwald sometimes performs SmartLipo in conjunction with other, more comprehensive body contouring treatments, such as tummy tuck or mini tummy tuck. Dr. Greenwald uses SmartLipo to enhance the results of tummy tuck by removing minor localized fatty tissue deposits. Depending on the aesthetic needs and goals of each patient, Dr. Greenwald might also combine lower body lift with liposuction to achieve smooth, slim body contours.
