Dr. Greenwald earned his medical degree at the New York University Medical School. He then completed a general surgery internship and residency training at NYU, as well as a highly coveted two-year fellowship at the NYU Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery. In addition, Dr. Greenwald completed a prestigious fellowship in plastic surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, a nationally recognized plastic surgery training facility. While advancing his surgical skills, Dr. Greenwald also performed medical research. His academic contributions to the field of plastic surgery have been recognized by many awards.

Besides being regarded as one of the leading tummy tuck surgeons, Dr. Joshua Greenwald is also an accomplished water polo player. While in high school, Dr. Greenwald was an all-American water polo player, and he was on the swimming and water polo teams while at Columbia University. Dr. Greenwald is also proud to have competed as part of the 1988–89 Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League championship team.
